Our COVID-19 Test
To reliably detect an ongoing infection the laboratory will perform a molecular test to detect the presence or absence of the virus using a method called “real-time reverse- transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction” commonly known as RT-PCR. This method is currently the only reliable way to detect an ongoing infection.
Since Coronaviruses are RNA viruses a conversion step is required to first convert the viral RNA into DNA. The DNA is then copied many times and detected using fluorescent substances.
Our tests are performed in an accredited laboratory and are different from the rapid tests offered which provide instant results.
The tests that offer instant results are not recommended by the UK authorities.

How it works

Who should take the test
You should consider taking a test if you want to check if you are infected with Covid-19.
Coronavirus symptoms (NHS guidelines):
- a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature);
- a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual);
- a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.
